Susan Sanford a an artist in Oakland, California. She is continually fascinated by rewriting history in one way or another. Currently, her Altered Ancestors series imagines alternative lives for those trapped in old photos. Some works explain the facts of life as understood by a somewhat confused but opinionated person. Photographs are an attempt to fix the moment permanently in the same way that a collector fixes a butterfly with pins. What is lost in the permanent capture, what remains, and what grows out of the image?
She is participating in Open Studios this year, her studio at 592 Jean St # 102 will be open 11-6 on June 4 and 5. If you are in Oakland, The studio is just off Grand Avenue at Jean St. near the Oakland Rose Garden, at the top of the hill where Santa Rosa meets Jean St. From San Francisco, take the Oakland/Harrison St. exit from 24.
See links page for blog and etsy store with felt jewelry.
